Cook over fire in a centuries-old farmyard, then sit down to eat what your hands prepared.

A hands-on cooking class at Ktima Korres Yastra, a working organic estate in Naxos, where you harvest seasonal ingredients, learn fire-based cooking from the owner-chef Markos, and share a farm-to-table lunch paired with the family's award-winning wines. The experience moves from the vineyard to the kitchen to the shared table, rooted in Cycladic tradition and the estate's five generations of winemaking.

The experience

You start with a welcome drink under centuries-old trees, then walk through the estate's certified organic cultivations to gather the ingredients you'll cook with. Along the way, the owners explain seasonality and sustainability: values that have shaped life here across five generations. The walk is not a tour. It's a foraging mission that grounds what comes next.

Markos, co-owner and chef, guides you through preparing traditional Naxian and Cycladic recipes using fire-based techniques rooted in the island's mountainous terrain. While the food cooks, Sofia, co-owner and sommelier, introduces the estate's indigenous wine varieties and explains how Cycladic diet and wine connect. You taste portions of the award-winning wines as you work, not after. The dishes you prepare (four starters, one main and dessert) cook around the fire, and the aromas and flavors that emerge are the point. You're learning a method, not following steps on a card.

The meal happens at a shared table where you eat the food you made, paired with the estate's wines. Vegetarian options are available if you request them when booking. The whole experience runs about three and a half hours. You choose between a 10am morning session or a 2:15pm afternoon departure, and the guide speaks English or Greek.

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English and Greek.

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Youth (6 to 13 years): free; Child (under 6).

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

What ingredients do I actually harvest, or is it just a walk through the fields?

You walk through the certified organic cultivations and gather fresh seasonal ingredients you'll use in the cooking class. What's ready to pick depends on the time of year. The estate works with what's in season, so the menu changes.

Does the fire-based cooking mean I'm cooking over an open flame, or is it a demonstration?

You cook hands-on over fire. Markos guides you through the traditional techniques, but you're doing the work, not watching. Fire-based cooking is the method that brings out the distinctive aromas and flavors of Naxian food.

How much wine do I drink during this class?

You taste portions of the estate's award-winning wines paired with the meal itself, not as a separate tasting. The welcome drink is crafted with the estate's wines and ingredients, and then you have wine pairings as you eat the dishes you prepared.

Is this a private class or do I cook with other people?

It's a shared experience around one table, so you cook and eat with other guests. The class is guided by Markos and Sofia, the owners, not by hired staff.

What is Ktima Korres Yastra, and why does it matter that it's a working estate?

Ktima Korres Yastra is a family-owned organic vineyard and farm in Naxos, now in its fifth generation of winemaking. Because it's a working estate, not a cooking school, you're learning from the people who actually live and work there, and the ingredients you cook with come from the land you walk through.
