The experience
The class opens with a guided coffee cupping session led by someone who knows the crop. You'll explore the aromas and flavors that make Ethiopian coffee world-renowned, learn which regions grow which beans, how roast levels change the taste, and how to pick out tasting notes like a professional. Then you move into the kitchen to make enjera, the sourdough-risen flatbread that sits at the center of every Ethiopian meal. You mix the dough, watch it ferment, and bake it on a traditional mitad (the curved griddle used in homes across the country) learning the flip that keeps it tender and spotted.
The session ends with a relaxed communal meal where you eat your own enjera with authentic Ethiopian dishes like shiro and misir wot, followed by a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony. It's the moment to taste what you've made and sit with locals in the way the meal is meant to be shared. Private transportation is included, and the class welcomes children from age 6.

Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (13 to 17 years); Child (6 to 12 years). Children under 6 can't be included in the booking.
What exactly is enjera and why is it so important to Ethiopian food?
Enjera is a spongy sourdough flatbread that ferments for days and serves as both plate and utensil in Ethiopian meals. It's the foundation of the cuisine. You tear off pieces to scoop up stews and vegetables, and it's eaten at nearly every meal in Ethiopia.
Will I actually get to taste Ethiopian coffee, or just learn about it?
You taste it during the guided cupping session. A local expert walks you through the aromas, flavors and brewing methods, and you'll sample different roast levels and regional varieties to learn how to identify tasting notes yourself.
What happens if I've never cooked before? Can I still make enjera?
Yes. The class is hands-on and designed for beginners. You'll mix, ferment and bake the enjera in a cozy kitchen setting with instruction, and you'll learn the technique of flipping it on the traditional mitad so it cooks evenly.
Is lunch included, or do I need to eat before the class?
Lunch is included. You eat the enjera you've made along with authentic Ethiopian dishes like shiro and misir wot as part of the communal meal that closes the session.
How long does the whole class take?
