The experience

Day one starts at your hotel and moves through three pyramid fields. Dahshur comes first, where you see the Red Pyramid and the Bent Pyramid: structures that show how pyramid design shifted as builders learned. Saqqara follows with the Step Pyramid Complex, the oldest stone structure on earth, plus the pyramids of Unas, Userkaf and Teti. By afternoon you're at Giza, standing in front of the Great Pyramid, the Pyramid of Chephren, the Pyramid of Mycerinus and the Great Sphinx. The Valley Temple sits nearby, where mummification took place. Lunch is included, and the air-conditioned vehicle means the heat is not part of the day's friction.

Day two begins with the Egyptian Museum, where your guide takes you through the animal mummy room, the mummy portraits and King Tutankhamun's jewelry. The Royal Mummy Rooms are available for an extra cost if you want to see them. Then Old Cairo: the Roman Fortress of Babylon, the Hanging Church, the Church of Abu Serga and the Jewish Synagogue of Ben Ezra, followed by Khan El-Khalili bazaar, where the market fills the streets and the guide knows where to walk.
