You’ll ride your own ATV through Punta Cana’s countryside with a local guide, taste fresh Dominican coffee and chocolate at an organic farm, leap into a cool cave pool, then unwind on Macao Beach’s soft sand before heading back—muddy shoes guaranteed but worth every second.
Helmet straps clicking under my chin, I could already smell the wet earth before we even started up the ATVs. Our guide, Luis, grinned and told us not to worry about getting muddy — “that’s half the fun.” He was right. The first stretch out of Punta Cana was all rattling handlebars and bursts of green on either side, palms whipping past so fast I nearly missed the tiny lizards darting across the track. There was this moment when a rooster crowed somewhere behind us and it just felt… alive, you know?
We pulled up at a little farm that looked like it had been there forever. The air changed — sweeter, with hints of coffee roasting and something herbal (mamajuana? I still don’t know exactly what’s in that). Luis handed out tiny cups of chocolate so rich it stuck to my teeth. I tried to say “gracias” with my mouth full; he just laughed and poured another round. Someone else tried rolling a cigar and made a mess of it — nobody cared. It felt good to just stand there for a bit, sticky fingers and all.
The next part was wilder than I expected. Bouncing along rough roads until we stopped at this cave — cool air pouring out like someone left the fridge open in July. People were jumping straight into the water; I hesitated but ended up following (couldn’t let the kids show me up). Cold shock on my skin, echoey laughter bouncing off stone walls. That swim woke me up more than any coffee did.
Macao Beach was last — sun beating down, salt in the air, cliffs off in the distance. Some locals were selling fruit from buckets and kids ran circles around our group chasing each other into the surf. I sat on the sand for a while after everyone else packed up; couldn’t really explain why I didn’t want to leave yet. Maybe it was just wanting to hold onto that feeling a bit longer.
Your day includes round-trip hotel transportation in Punta Cana, use of an ATV with helmet if you want one, tastings of organic coffee and chocolate at a local farm (plus mamajuana and cigars), entrance to a water cave for swimming or relaxing nearby, time at Macao Beach with its limestone cliffs—and your local guide looking out for you throughout.
