The Experience

You're standing at Langelinie Pier with maybe 120 minutes before you need to be back at the ship. A Segway tour of Copenhagen sounds fun, but is it actually worth the time? The answer is yes — mostly because the car-free zones you'll ride through are where the real Copenhagen lives, and a guide who knows which streets to take gets you past the postcard sights and into the quieter corners. You start with 15 minutes of training on flat ground behind the store (it's genuinely easy, even if you've never stood on one before), then head straight into Langelinie Park toward the Little Mermaid. Five minutes in and you're already at the first photo stop. From there the route loops through Nyhavn with its painted buildings and the waterfront stories, past the Opera House, around Christiansborg Palace where Parliament sits, and down toward Amalienborg where the Queen's residence sits on a perfect square. There's a café break at the Royal Danish Theatre halfway through — you can grab an organic drink or just sit with the view.

What makes this different from walking is the pace and the access. You cover ground fast enough to hit eight or nine major sights in two hours, but slow enough to actually absorb them. The guide has a radio system and knows exactly where cars aren't allowed, so you're gliding through pedestrian streets and park paths that most cruise passengers never find. You'll see the Citadel (a 1600s fortress you can actually ride through), the old customs house, the Black Diamond building, and smaller monuments — the Gefion Fountain, the Marble Church, the English Church tucked into Churchill Park — that fill in the gaps between the famous ones. The Segway itself is stable and doesn't require balance the way you'd think; the hard part is just getting comfortable with the throttle in the first minute or two.

When you finish, you hand in the helmet and radio, get a complimentary organic beverage, and take home a Segway souvenir. You're back at the store with time to spare before heading to the ship. The whole thing — training, tour, break, return — fits inside the two-hour window, which is why this is the most popular shore excursion for cruise guests at Langelinie. You need to weigh between 35 and 125 kilograms, be at least 135 centimetres tall, and be able to stand for the duration and step on and off with ease. Wear comfortable shoes, not heels. The tour runs in all weather; they'll give you a rain poncho if it's wet.

About 15 minutes. You'll receive a helmet, radio, and safety briefing at the store, then practice on a flat training ground behind the building before the group heads out.
What's included in the tour price?
Segway rental, helmet, radio system, local guide, training, a café stop with complimentary organic beverage, a Segway souvenir, and luggage storage if you need it. Rain ponchos are provided if weather turns wet.
Do I need to have ridden a Segway before?
No. The training is designed for first-timers and covers everything you need. Most people feel comfortable within the first few minutes.
What if I'm late getting off the ship?
Arrive at the store 15 minutes before the tour departure time. The operator will try to fit latecomers onto the next available tour, but availability isn't guaranteed. If they can't accommodate you, the full price is charged.
Are there weight or height limits?
Yes. You must weigh between 35 and 125 kilograms and be at least 135 centimetres tall. Children are welcome if they meet the weight requirement (minimum 35kg) and are at least 11 years old.
What if the weather is bad?
The tour operates in all weather. Rain ponchos are provided. In severe conditions, the operator reserves the right to cancel and rebook you on a later tour if possible.
Can I store my luggage while on the tour?
Yes. The store offers luggage storage at no extra cost while you're out on the Segway.
Do we actually go inside Tivoli Gardens or the Opera House?
No. You'll see both from outside and get photo stops, but the tour doesn't include entry to either attraction. The focus is on riding through the streets and around the exteriors.
Is this tour suitable for people with mobility concerns?
The tour requires you to stand for the full duration and step on and off the Segway with ease. It's not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health. Check with the operator if you have specific concerns.
What should I wear?
Comfortable shoes — no high heels. Dress for the weather; the tour runs rain or shine. Avoid loose clothing that might catch on the Segway.
