The Experience

You arrive 15 minutes early for check-in and a training session where you'll get fitted with a helmet, receive your radio, and practice on the Segway until you're comfortable—it's designed to be easy, and the guide walks you through it. Once trained, the tour launches along the water through a car-free zone, which is where most riders find their rhythm. This stretch runs from Langelinie all the way to Nyhavn, passing Langelinie Park and the old customs area with its royal pavilions where the Queen embarks her yacht.

The first major stop is The Little Mermaid, the sculpture that overlooks the harbor. From there the route moves through newer parts of the city—you'll pass a recent colonial-history sculpture, the Royal Cast Collection, and the Maersk Garden between the Opera House and the Royal Palace. The Opera House itself gets a photo stop; it's one of the world's most expensive opera buildings, and your guide shares why. By this point you're roughly halfway through, and that's when you pull into the café at the Royal Danish Theater on Kongens Nytorv for a 20-minute break. The café is run by the Meyer Group, and they offer organic pastries and hot beverages at prices exclusive to Segway riders—no purchase required, but it's a real chance to warm up.

After the café, the route continues to Amalienborg Palace (the Queen's residence), where you stop for photos on the square, then past the Marble Church and Kastellet, the still-active military citadel with its iconic red buildings. The tour wraps up back at the shop, where you hand in your gear and stay for a complimentary organic beverage and a Segway souvenir. Your guide can also point you toward other activities or give directions around the city.

Top questions

Can I do a Segway tour in Copenhagen if I've never ridden one before?

Yes. Everyone gets a training session before the tour starts, where you'll learn to ride, practice on the Segway, and meet your guide. The training covers helmet and radio setup, and the guide confirms you're ready before the group heads out.

What happens if it rains during the 90-minute tour?

Rain ponchos are provided for all riders, so you stay dry while cruising. The tour runs in winter conditions, and the gear is designed for it.

Is there really a café stop, and do I have to buy anything?

Yes, there's a 20-minute stop at the café in the Royal Danish Theater on Kongens Nytorv, roughly halfway through the tour. The café offers organic pastries and hot beverages at special prices for Segway riders, but buying is optional—many riders just warm up and rest.

What are The Little Mermaid and Nyhavn like when you see them from a Segway?

The Little Mermaid is the first major stop after the car-free waterfront stretch; you get a photo stop at the sculpture overlooking the harbor. Nyhavn comes later in the route, and you pass through it on the way to the café stop, so you see the colorful buildings and harbor from the Segway itself.

What's included when I finish the tour?

After you return to the shop and hand in your helmet and radio, you get a complimentary organic beverage and a fun Segway souvenir. Your guide is there to chat, give directions, or help book other activities if you want them.

Do I need to speak Danish or English to understand the guide?

The guide speaks English, Spanish, or Danish depending on your group, and commentary comes through the radio system on your Segway, so you hear the stories clearly while riding.
