The experience

You arrive 15 minutes early for check-in, get fitted with a helmet and radio, then spend time on the spacious training ground learning to balance and steer. The Segway feels awkward for about five minutes, then it clicks. Once you're steady, the guide leads you out along the waterfront in a car-free zone, and within five minutes you're at The Little Mermaid, the first photo stop. The guide tells you the story most visitors never hear, and you're already seeing more than you would have on foot.

From there the route loops through Langelinie Park, past the Royal Pavilions where the Queen boards her yacht, and into the newer parts of the waterfront where the Copenhagen Opera House sits across the water: Ofelia Square gives you the perfect vantage and a chance to test your balance on the open pavement. Then you head toward Nyhavn, the colored-house postcard spot, where the guide shares the history while you glide past the yellow and red facades. A café break happens at the Royal Theatre, where you can sit and rest if you want one.

The second half takes you inland through the Latin Quarter (the quieter, less touristy streets where locals actually live), then past Christiansborg Palace (the Danish Parliament, and sometimes you'll see the Queen's horses stabled there), Tivoli Gardens, and the Black Diamond modern building before heading to Amalienborg Palace, the Queen's residence. You finish back near the starting point, hand in your gear, and get a complimentary organic drink and a souvenir before you leave. The whole route covers landmarks that would take three or four hours to see on foot, and you're done in two.

The 1pm tour works better if you're staying near the city center and prefer an afternoon outing. What's the training like before the actual tour starts?

Training happens on a spacious, quiet practice ground where you learn to balance and steer one-on-one. Most people feel confident within a few minutes, and you practice until you're ready to go out on the route. It's designed to be easy, not intimidating.

Will I see The Little Mermaid and Nyhavn on this tour?

Yes. The Little Mermaid is your first photo stop, about five minutes into the route along the waterfront. Nyhavn comes later, and you'll glide past the colored houses while the guide tells you the stories behind them. It's one of the most photographed spots on the tour.

How much of the route is in car-free zones?

The waterfront section at the start is entirely car-free, and you stay in protected zones for most of the first half. The second half moves into the old city and Latin Quarter where you're on regular streets, but the guide chooses quieter routes and the Segway lets you move at your own pace through the traffic.

Is there a break during the two hours?

You must weigh between 35kg and 125kg, be at least 135cm tall, and be at least 12 years old.
