Rappel a 55-Meter Waterfall & Jump Off Cliffs on Croatia's Wildest River

You spend roughly six to seven hours in the Cetina River canyon, moving between rappels, cliff jumps, and natural water pools with a professional guide who handles all the technical setup. The tour includes wetsuits, harnesses, helmets, and life vests, plus pickup and drop-off from Split. You'll need moderate fitness, a swimsuit, and firm sports shoes (rentable on-site for €7 if you don't have your own). Minimum age is 14 years.

6h

Step-by-step itinerary

  • Walk and hike through canyon
  • Slide down rapids
  • Swim in natural water pools
  • Walk through tunnels
  • Rappel near 55m waterfall
  • Cliff jump up to 10 meters
  • Rappel 20 meters

The Experience

Our guide Marko met us at the minivan pickup point in Split at dawn, already grinning like he knew what we were about to do. He handed out wetsuits and harnesses while explaining the day in a mix of Croatian and English—the kind of casual confidence that made you believe he'd done this a thousand times. The Cetina River doesn't look that dramatic from the parking area, but once you're in the canyon, the walls close in and the water turns this impossible shade of blue-green. We started with a hike down through the gorge, the air getting cooler, the sound of water getting louder, and then Marko pointed ahead: the first rappel was maybe twenty meters down into a pool so clear you could see the rocks on the bottom.

The extreme canyoning on Cetina combines things that shouldn't work together but somehow do. You're walking along narrow ledges, then sliding down natural rock chutes into pools, then swimming across to the next section. There's a tunnel you wade through—water up to your chest, helmet on, headlamp on—and then you emerge into daylight and the canyon opens up again. The cliff jumps came around mid-morning: ten meters the first time, which feels higher when you're standing on the edge. Marko demonstrated first, and you watch him drop and surface and wave, and then it's your turn. The 20-meter rappel happened after lunch, your hands working the rope, your feet against the rock face, and below you this waterfall thundering down from 55 meters above. That's the one everyone talks about afterward.

What makes this different from a regular hike is the equipment and the guide's eye for what you can actually do. You're wearing a wetsuit, life vest, climbing harness, and helmet—so you're safe, but you don't feel trapped by it. The professional guide reads the group's pace and adjusts; nobody's rushed, nobody's bored. The pools are genuinely cold and genuinely clear, and the swimming sections break up the physical work. By the afternoon, your legs know you've done something, but it's the good kind of tired. The minivan ride back to Split gives you time to decompress, and most people sleep.

What’s included
