The experience
The Cetina River cuts through limestone cliffs about half an hour from Split, and the canyoning starts with your guide fitting you into a neoprene suit, vest and helmet, then walking you through the safety protocols before you enter the water. Over the next 2 to 2.5 hours, you'll move through the canyon in stages: hiking over rugged terrain, swimming across pools that sit between sheer rock walls, and climbing or jumping from the cliff faces themselves. The guide leads the way and stays with your group throughout, speaking English, German, Czech or Slovak depending on which departure you book.
The river itself is the route. You'll pass through three distinct sections, each one offering a different challenge: mysterious underground tunnels where the canyon narrows, natural pools deep enough to swim in, and stretches where the water moves fast over rapids. The guide chooses the path and the pace, and you follow, stopping to catch your breath and take in the scale of what you're moving through. The whole thing wraps up near the Kraljevac Hydro Power Plant, where the guide helps you out of your wet gear and drives you back to the canyoning center in an air-conditioned vehicle.
You'll need to arrive 15 minutes early for equipment setup and the safety briefing. Bring a moderate level of fitness and comfort in the water. The guide reserves the right to assess your fitness before the start. Shoes are your own, but the neoprene suit, vest, helmet, safety belt and insurance are all included, along with professional photos and videos of the day.
