The experience
The guide meets you at your hotel in Split or at Omiš with a minivan and takes you to the Cetina River starting point. Once there, you get a helmet, life jacket, paddle and neoprene suit (on request), plus a safety briefing before you push off. The river itself moves through sections of calm water and whitewater, and at several points you can climb out and jump from cliffs ranging from 4 to 6 meters into the water below: optional, but most people do it.
The centerpiece is the cave behind a waterfall. You paddle into the first chamber, where the water stays around 10 degrees Celsius, then move deeper into a second room lined with stalactites and stalagmites. Small lakes fed by natural springs sit throughout the cave, and at the exit a waterfall cascades across the opening: the spot most people photograph. If cliff jumping and cave swimming aren't your thing, you can swim in the river, sunbathe on the banks or just float and take in the landscape instead.
After roughly 3 hours on the water, the trip ends at a picnic area called Radmanove Mlinice, where the van is waiting with your belongings so you can change. The guide brings a GoPro and shoots photos and video throughout the day, which you get to keep. The whole outing runs about 6 hours from pickup to drop-off.
