Deep Water Solo & Cliff Jumping in Split: Overhang Climbing
Climb overhanging rock above the sea, then jump.
Deep water solo is rock climbing on vertical and overhang routes that start and end in the sea, and this activity in Split puts you on the cliffs just minutes from the city center with a professional climbing guide, climbing shoes, insurance and guide photography included. The 3-hour session lets you pick your own difficulty level while the guide manages safety and technique. Minimum age is 12 and you need to be a comfortable swimmer; the tour runs only in favorable weather.
The Experience
Deep water solo is a form of rock climbing where every route begins and ends in the water—no ropes, no harnesses, just you, the rock and the sea below. Split's old DWS climbing area sits close enough to the city center that you can be on the overhang cliffs in minutes. A professional climbing guide meets you there and handles all the technical support: they provide climbing shoes fitted to your size, manage the safety setup, and teach you the technique you need. You choose which routes to attempt based on your comfort level, and the guide adjusts the difficulty as you go.
The day is built around three hours of climbing and jumping. You'll work on vertical and overhang routes above water so clear you can see the bottom, and the guide photographs the session so you have a record of what you pulled off. Between climbs, you jump from the rocks into the sea—the adrenaline part that makes the day stick with you. Insurance is included, as are all taxes and fees; bring a towel, bathing suit, sun cream, a change of clothes and water. The guide speaks English and works with you one-on-one or in a small group, reading the conditions and your energy and pacing the session so the climbing stays fun instead of turning into a grind.
Weather decides whether the tour runs: if conditions turn poor, you get to reschedule for another date or take a full refund. You'll need at least a moderate level of fitness and you have to be a confident swimmer—deep water solo is not a lesson in either one. Children as young as 12 can participate if an adult is with them. Public transportation stops nearby if you're coming from the city without a car.

What is deep water solo climbing, and how is it different from regular rock climbing?
Deep water solo is rock climbing on vertical or overhang routes where every climb starts and ends in the sea instead of on the ground. There are no ropes or harnesses—you climb above water, and when you come down or jump, you land in the sea. It combines the technical challenge of climbing with the adrenaline of jumping, and the water below removes the fall risk that makes ground climbing dangerous.
Can I choose how hard the routes are, or does the guide pick them for me?
You choose your own difficulty level during the 3-hour session. The professional climbing guide is there to support you and teach you the technique you need, so you can start easier and work up to harder routes as you feel ready, or stay at a level that feels right for the day.
What do I need to bring, and what climbing gear is provided?
The activity includes climbing shoes fitted to your size, insurance and all taxes and fees. You bring a towel, bathing suit, sun cream, a change of clothes and at least one bottle of water per person. Tell the operator your shoe size before the tour so they can have the right fit ready.
Is this activity safe if I'm not an experienced climber?
The guide is a professional rock climber who provides all the support and climbing knowledge you need. You don't need climbing experience to start—you just need to be a comfortable swimmer, have at least moderate fitness, and be willing to learn the technique. The guide adjusts the routes to match your ability.
What happens if the weather is bad on the day of my tour?
The tour depends on favorable weather conditions for safety. If poor weather cancels the activity, you can reschedule for another date or receive a full refund.
Where exactly is the climbing area, and how do I get there from Split?
The deep water solo cliffs are just a few minutes from Split's city center. Public transportation options are available nearby if you don't have a car, so getting to the site from the city is straightforward.
