Step-by-step itinerary
Canoe tour through Tortuguero Park
- Depart from Tortuguero dock
- Enter channels by canoe
- Observe monkeys and alligators
- Watch birds and jungle flora
- Explore deep jungle by canoe
The experience
You leave from the Tortuguero dock and paddle by canoe into the park's channels, where the jungle opens up around you. Monkeys call from the trees, alligators surface in the water, and birds move through the canopy. The guide navigates the waterways and points out the animals and plants that live here. It's the kind of place where every paddle stroke brings something new into view. The scents and sounds of the jungle are part of the experience. Bring a good camera because the light and the wildlife moments are worth capturing.
Erik, your guide, speaks French, English, Spanish or Dutch, so you get the details in your own language. He knows the park well and shares what he sees as you move through it. The canoe itself gets you into the heart of the park in a way a larger boat cannot. You're low in the water, moving quietly through narrow channels where the wildlife is closest. Life jackets are provided and worn throughout.
The tour runs 2.5 hours from start to finish. All areas are wheelchair accessible, and infants can ride along (small children can stay in a pram or stroller if needed). Public transportation options are available near the dock if you're arranging your own way there.
What’s included
