Eight Ziplines, Five Kilometers of Rapids, Then Mud and Thermal Pools

You zipline through a canyon on eight cables and platforms, tube five kilometers down Rio Negro's rapids, eat a full lunch with dietary options, then soak in ten natural hot spring pools and apply volcanic mud like a spa treatment. Hotel pickup and return transport are included, and the whole day runs from early morning through late afternoon.

8h–12h

Step-by-step itinerary

  • Ziplining course with 8 cables
  • Rappel, rock climb, and Tarzan swing
  • River tubing on Rio Negro rapids
  • Enjoy full lunch with dessert and drinks
  • Visit hot springs and volcanic mud bath

The Experience

The harness clicks tight and the canyon opens below you. Rincon de la Vieja's zipline course doesn't ease you in — it drops you straight into a steep ravine where you'll clip through eight cables strung across 18 platforms, cross a hanging bridge, rappel down rock, and swing out on a Tarzan line over the river. The rappel and swing are optional, but most people do them. It's the kind of thing that sounds harder than it is once you're actually clipped in, and the guide talks you through every transition. After the canopy clears out, you get lunch — a full buffet with salad, multiple entrees, sides, dessert, fresh juice and coffee — before heading to the Rio Negro Hot Springs.

The river tubing happens after you've already burned some adrenaline. You get your own tube and bounce down Rio Negro's rapids for over five kilometers, which sounds longer than it feels because the current moves fast and the water is clear enough that you can see the rocks coming. It's not technical whitewater — more like a long, splashy ride that leaves you soaked and laughing. The whole thing takes a few hours from start to finish, and by the time you're done, your shoulders know you've been working.

Then comes the part that actually feels like a break. The hot springs sit in tropical dry forest, ten pools fed by water heated naturally by the volcano itself. You can float in the thermal pools, which are warm and mineral-rich, or try the volcanic mud bath — you coat yourself in the clay, let it dry, then rinse off in the cool river water. It sounds gimmicky until you actually do it. Hotel pickup starts at 6am from Tamarindo, Flamingo, Conchal and other nearby areas, and you're back by late afternoon. The minivan is air-conditioned, which matters because the drive is long and the day is full.

What’s included

Your day includes hotel pickup from Tamarindo, Flamingo, Conchal, Playas del Coco, Playa Hermosa and other listed areas, transport by air-conditioned minivan with a professional guide, eight ziplines with 18 platforms plus hanging bridge and optional rappel and Tarzan swing, over five kilometers of river tubing down Rio Negro, a full buffet lunch with salad, entrees, sides, dessert and beverages, access to ten natural hot spring pools heated by Rincon de la Vieja Volcano, a volcanic mud bath experience, bottled water throughout, and all fees and taxes.
