The experience
You get picked up from your hotel in a private vehicle and driven west to a rural area outside Medellín where the altitude works for flight. Once there, you're paired with a licensed pilot who has flown these routes for years: many of them grew up farming in the same valleys you'll fly over. The flight itself runs around 15 minutes, though wind and weather can shorten or extend it. At 7,000 feet, you're high enough to see the whole city spread across the valley below, but the real view is the contrast: hundreds of dairy farms stitched into the hillsides, then the cluster of skyscrapers rising from the valley floor where the city begins.
You're strapped in tandem with your pilot the whole time, so safety is their job and yours is just to look. The operator includes GoPro footage of the flight at no extra charge. You'll need to bring an SD card or have phone storage ready to transfer the video before you leave. After landing, the driver takes you back to your hotel. The whole outing takes about three hours from pickup to drop-off.
