The experience

The day starts with pickup from your hotel in a private vehicle. Your guide meets you and drives to the launch point in the Andes foothills, where you'll meet your certified pilot and receive instructions on what to expect during the flight. The briefing covers body position, landing technique and how to move once you're airborne. Everything you need to know before you step off the mountain.

Once in the air, you have 20 minutes to take in the view. Paragliding here means you're not watching the landscape pass below. You're suspended in it, seeing both the sprawl of Medellin and the green ridges of the Andes at once. The pilot handles the technical flying while you experience the altitude and the stillness. A helmet and traveler's insurance are provided, and there's a weight limit of 120 kg.

After landing, the driver takes you back to your hotel. The whole outing (pickup, drive, briefing, flight and return) takes about 4 hours. Departures run every day of the week, and the guides speak English and Spanish. Children under 18 can fly if accompanied by an adult and sharing the cost with two paying adults.
