You visit three distinct parts of Chilean culture in one day: Neruda's oceanside home with its personal collections and sea views, a working pottery village where you can browse artisan workshops and eat lunch, and a historic vineyard in Maipo Valley with a guided tour and wine tasting. All entry fees and tastings are included; your bilingual guide and private vehicle mean you move at your own pace between stops.
Hands turn clay on a wooden wheel, fingers shaping the rim of a bowl that's been made the same way for centuries. That's Pomaire — but you don't start there. The day begins much earlier, on the coast at Isla Negra, where Pablo Neruda's Black House sits facing the Pacific. Your bilingual guide picks you up in Santiago and drives you west on Route 78, past vineyards and rural valleys, until the urban sprawl gives way to the ocean. The house itself is small, intimate, filled with the things Neruda collected: ship figureheads, maps, nautical objects, souvenirs from his travels. You walk through the rooms where he lived and wrote, see the gardens where he and Matilda Urrutia are buried. Entry is included, so you don't wait in a separate line.
After Isla Negra, you head inland to Pomaire, a town built on pottery. It's not a museum — it's a working place where artisans still make greda ceramics in small workshops you can visit. You have time to walk the streets, look at the pieces, and eat lunch on your own at one of the local restaurants (lunch isn't included, but the food is straightforward and cheap). The pottery tradition here goes back centuries, and the pieces are the real thing, not souvenirs made for tourists. Your guide stays with you, but the pace is yours — you're not herded through in two hours.
The afternoon takes you to Viña Undurraga in the Maipo Valley, one of Chile's oldest vineyards. A guide walks you through the gardens and the working vineyards, explains how they make the wine, and then you sit down for a tasting of a selection of their wines. The tasting is included, and it's not rushed. You taste what they pour, learn a bit about each one, and the day ends there — your driver takes you back to Santiago in the late afternoon. The whole thing is private transportation, not a minibus with twelve other people, which means you're not waiting for anyone else to finish their photo or their glass.
