The experience

The day starts with a drive to Isla Negra on the central coast, where Pablo Neruda's House Museum sits overlooking the Pacific. The tour of the museum itself is optional (you pay the entrance ticket separately if you want to walk through the rooms), but the stop gives you the chance to see the exterior and the coastal setting that drew the Nobel Prize–winning poet. From there the route heads inland to Pomaire, a small town built around pottery. The main street, Roberto Bravo, runs past clay workshops where artisans still work in the tradition that predates Spanish arrival. You can watch them, buy pieces directly, and eat at the food stalls serving pastel de choclo and the town's famous empanadas in different flavors and sizes.

The afternoon finishes at Viña Undurraga in the Maipo Valley, 34 kilometers from Santiago. Founded in 1885, it is one of the oldest wineries in the country and now operates across five valleys with 1,700 hectares of vines. The tour walks you through the vineyard operation, and you taste three wines before heading back to your hotel. The whole day runs about 10 hours with the drive time built in.
