The experience

The mine tunnels run 300 meters long and drop 25 meters deep, holding amethyst, topaz and other semi-precious stones still visible in the walls. A guide walks you through the extraction process as you move through the passages, then takes you to the shop where you can buy finished jewelry or raw stones pulled from these same tunnels. The whole underground section takes up the core of the morning.

After the mine, the tour loops back toward Puerto Iguazu for lunch at the on-site restaurant, where they serve traditional Argentine barbecue. On the return leg, you stop at a gastronomic fair to pick up local products (alfajores, dulce de leche, olive oil), and pause at the Three Borders Landmark for photos where Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil meet. Private transport in an air-conditioned vehicle moves the group between each stop, and your guide handles all navigation and timing.

The full outing runs five to seven hours door-to-door. You'll need an original photo ID (passport or national identity card, valid for at least ten years) to enter the mine. Infants can sit on a lap or ride in a stroller. All surfaces and vehicles are wheelchair accessible.
