Step-by-step itinerary

Visit both sides of Iguaçu Falls

  • Explore Brazilian side 2 km trail
  • View Devil's Throat waterfall
  • Observe wildlife like coatis and birds
  • Cross border to Argentine side
  • Walk upper and lower trails near falls
  • Enjoy views of Devil's Throat

The experience

The tour starts with hotel pickup and transport across the border to the Argentine side of Iguaçu National Park. There you walk the upper and lower trails through subtropical forest, moving close enough to the falls to feel the spray and see the rock formations that shape each cascade. The Devil's Throat dominates this side: one of the most powerful sections of the entire system. Your bilingual guide explains the region's history, fauna and flora as you move through the 185,000 hectares of protected forest.

After the Argentine trails, you cross back into Brazil and follow a single 2 km route that gives a different angle on the same falls. This side offers a panoramic view rather than an intimate one, and the trail ends where the mist from the Devil's Throat reaches you directly. Coatis and birds appear regularly along both sides. The guide handles all border procedures and documentation so you move between countries without stopping to manage paperwork.

The full day runs 10 to 12 hours from pickup to return. You'll need to carry original physical documents (digital copies are not accepted at the border), and the park entrance fees for both countries are separate from the tour price. Wear clothes that can get wet from the spray, and bring a camera that can handle moisture.

Is this one for you?The tour crosses two countries and two sets of trails in one day, so you're moving between locations and walking both sides. Plan for a full morning and afternoon of travel and hiking rather than a single-location visit. This pace is what fits both parks into one day without rushing either one.

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Child (6 to 11 years); Infant (under 6): free.

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

What's the difference between the Argentine and Brazilian sides of the falls?

The Argentine side has trails that take you close to the upper and lower cascades, letting you walk near the rock faces and feel the water spray directly. The Brazilian side follows a single 2 km trail that gives a panoramic view of all 275 falls at once, with the Devil's Throat as the focal point at the end. Both sides show you the same water system from opposite angles.

Do I need my passport for this tour?

Yes, you must carry original physical documents: digital copies are not accepted at the border crossings. Your guide handles all the crossing procedures, but you need to have the documents with you.

Will I get wet on this tour?

Yes, especially on the Brazilian side where the trail ends at the Devil's Throat and the mist reaches you directly. The Argentine trails also produce spray depending on water flow and where you stand. Wear clothes you don't mind getting damp and bring a waterproof bag for your camera and phone.

What animals might I see?

Coatis are common along both trails. They're small, friendly wild animals that often appear near the paths. Several bird species live in the subtropical forest throughout the park, and you may spot them as you walk.

How much walking is involved?

The Argentine side has multiple trails covering the upper and lower falls, and the Brazilian side is a 2 km walk. The full day is 10 to 12 hours including transport, border crossings and time at each location, so you'll be on your feet for several hours across both sides.
