Step-by-step itinerary

Explore Iguazú Falls and Jungle Walk

  • Enter through visitor center
  • Walk jungle trails to see wildlife
  • Admire views of Iguazú Falls
  • Observe insects, birds, and mammals

The experience

You arrive at the visitor center and begin on foot through the jungle itself, not viewing platforms, but the forest floor where the Yacaratiá Trail winds for 8 km. The walkways are graded for different fitness levels, so you choose the pace that suits you. Along the way you move through the canopy watching for coatis, monkeys, toucans and other birds. The guide points out the smaller wildlife too (dragonflies, beetles, butterflies), and explains what you're seeing in the biome itself. The aromas and colors of the jungle are part of the route, not something added to it.

After the jungle section, you board semi-rigid rubber boats at Puerto Macuco and travel 6 km downriver through the Lower Iguazú. Two of those kilometers are rapids that bring you close enough to feel the spray and hear the roar of the falls above. The boats land on San Martín Island, where you stand at the base of Devil's Throat Canyon: the point where the largest volume of water drops. This is the moment the whole route builds toward: you're not viewing the falls from a distance but standing where the canyon opens directly above you.

The full day runs seven hours from pickup to return. Your guide speaks English, Spanish or Portuguese, and the air-conditioned vehicle handles transport between the jungle section and the boat launch. The national park entrance fee is paid separately at the gate.

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Infant (under 3): free.

What's the jungle walk actually like on the Yacaratiá Trail?

The Yacaratiá Trail is an 8 km route through the forest itself, not a boardwalk tour. The walkways are graded for different fitness levels, so you pick the difficulty that suits you. You'll see wildlife like coatis, monkeys and toucans in their habitat, and the guide explains the plants and animals as you move through the canopy.

How close do you get to the falls on the boat ride?

The semi-rigid boats travel 6 km down the Lower Iguazú River, with 2 km of that through rapids. The ride brings you close enough to feel the spray and hear the roar, and the boats land on San Martín Island at the base of Devil's Throat Canyon, where you stand directly below the largest volume of water dropping.

Does the tour include the national park entrance fee?

The tour does not include the park entrance fee, which you pay separately at the gate. The guide, vehicle, jungle walks and boat ride are all included. The entrance ticket is an additional cost.

What time does pickup happen and how long is the full day?

Pickup from your hotel is included in the tour. The full excursion runs seven hours from pickup to return, and the guide will confirm the morning departure time when you book.
