The experience
The class starts with your hands in the work: you learn to prepare simboros, a local dish that sits at the center of Aelan slow-food traditions, guided by staff who know the recipes and the stories behind them. Then you move to the gardens (manioc, island cabbage, coconuts), and see where these ingredients actually come from. The team explains kava's cultural significance as you walk, so the food stops being abstract and becomes rooted in place.
The second half is about making coconut milk from fresh coconuts, which means you're extracting it yourself rather than watching a demonstration. Afterward you sit down to eat what you've prepared, served alongside a tropical fruit platter. The property sits on the river, so if you want to relax by the water instead of exploring the gardens and playground, that's an option too.
Two hours total. Light refreshments are included. You can either drive yourself to Eden on the River or book the option with transfers from your hotel. Both versions include the guide in English and all fees and taxes.
