The experience

The day starts at your hotel, where your driver meets you and leads you into a private air-conditioned vehicle for the 60-minute drive into Yosemite Valley. The route itself is the introduction: you're moving through the Sierra Nevada foothills, watching the granite walls rise as the valley opens. Your guide narrates the drive and points out the formations as they come into view: El Capitan on the north wall, Half Dome anchoring the eastern end, the valley floor stretching 7.5 miles between them and dropping 3,000 to 3,500 feet from the rim.

Once in the valley, the tour follows the main viewpoints and stops. You'll see El Capitan's vertical face, walk sections where Half Dome dominates the skyline, and then climb to Glacier Point, the high viewpoint on the south wall at 7,214 feet. From there, the entire valley spreads below: the granite summits, the forested floor, the scale of the place becomes clear in a way the valley floor alone does not.
