The beginner option covers four to five miles with minimal elevation gain, while the moderate hike runs five to six miles with up to 1,000 feet of elevation gain. The guide also knows where the light hits best and where to stop for photos without the crowds you'd find on the main valley floor.

Partway through, you'll reach a vista point, meadow, lake or stream where you can sit down and eat. Bring snacks and water; the guide doesn't provide food, but the spot itself—perched somewhere with a view—is part of why you're here. You'll have time to rest, take pictures and let the kids move around before heading back. The whole day runs four to six hours depending on which trail and how many stops you make.

You choose the trailhead when you confirm your booking by contacting the operator—they'll email you driving directions to the meeting spot. There's no hotel pickup; you drive to the trailhead yourself. If you're not a U.S. resident, the National Park entrance fee (USD 100 per person) is paid when you arrive, not at booking.
