Sourdough bread workshop in Scottsdale: Hands-on baking class
Mix, fold, and shape sourdough using a 19-year-old starter
A two-hour sourdough workshop in Scottsdale where you mix, fold, and shape dough under instruction, taste fresh-baked bread with dips, and leave with your own dough ready to bake at home. The class holds up to 10 people and welcomes children from age 7. You'll work with the instructor's 19-year-old starter and learn troubleshooting for your own kitchen.
The experience
Two hours covers the full arc of sourdough: you'll sip a welcome drink, meet the 19-year-old starter and learn how it works, then mix flour, water and starter to begin. The instructor walks you through each step as you participate: stretching and folding the dough to build strength, then shaping your loaf and placing it into a proofing basket. It's hands-on from the start, not a demonstration you watch from the side.
Midway through, you taste fresh-baked sourdough bread with a selection of dips. That tasting doubles as a lesson: the instructor shows you what good sourdough looks and tastes like, and walks through common issues you might hit at home. You leave with your own dough ready to bake and the confidence to troubleshoot when you do.
The class runs in a cozy space and caps at 10 people, so there's room to ask questions without feeling rushed. Children from age 7 are welcome. Bottled water and snacks are included, and the space is wheelchair accessible.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (12 to 17 years); Child (7 to 11 years). Children under 7 can't be included in the booking.
What's in the 19-year-old sourdough starter?
The starter is a living culture of flour and water that the instructor has maintained for 19 years. During the class, you'll learn how it works and use it to mix your own dough, so you understand the fermentation that makes sourdough rise and develop flavor.
Do I need baking experience to join?
No. The instructor teaches each step from the beginning (mixing, folding, shaping), so you learn by doing. Children from age 7 can join, and the class is designed for people new to sourdough.
Can I bake the dough I take home right away?
Your dough will be ready to bake when you get home, but the timing depends on your kitchen temperature. The instructor covers how to bake it and troubleshoot common issues during the class, so you'll know what to expect.
What happens if I can't finish shaping my loaf in two hours?
The instructor guides you through shaping during the class. Your dough goes into a proofing basket, and you take it home at that stage: ready for its final rise and bake in your own oven.
Is the space accessible for wheelchairs?
Yes. All areas and surfaces are wheelchair accessible, and transportation options nearby are also wheelchair accessible.
