The experience
The tour starts downtown at Pike Place Market, where your guide explains how to navigate the market and monorail on your own time before the group moves on. From there you walk through Pioneer Square, Seattle's historic district, to see the city's architectural origins and photograph the neighborhood's character: a stop suited to families and suited to anyone interested in how the city began.
The second major stop is the Ballard Locks, where you watch fishing boats and cargo vessels pass between the Pacific Ocean and the freshwater lakes that ring the city. The fish ladder built into the locks lets you see salmon either above water or through transparent tank walls as they move toward their spawning grounds. A quick photo stop at the Fremont District's Troll sculpture breaks up the route before you reach the locks.
The tour ends at Kerry Park, one of Seattle's most photographed viewpoints, where the city center spreads across the skyline. You can choose to finish there, continue to the Space Needle or Pike Place Market, or return to your hotel. The standard tour runs 3 hours but can be extended if your group wants more time at any stop.
