The experience
You start at Maenam Beach with a safety demonstration and full explanation of how to operate the jet ski. The briefing covers everything, whether you've ridden before or never touched one. The Seadoos are wide-bodied, stable and built for two riders, with a large seat and all sizes of riding jackets available. Once you're comfortable with the controls, you head out with your guide, who rides their own ski ahead of you.
The route takes you past a Thai temple, then around Koh Tan Island and into a hidden lagoon where the water is calm enough to stop, play and take photos. From there you cruise to a large coral reef where you drop anchor and snorkel. The reef is the main underwater stop, and snorkeling gear is provided. After the reef, you ride to Pig Island's long beach, where you can swim and relax before the return trip back to Maenam with views of the islands around you.
The whole outing runs 2.5 hours and includes the riding time, the snorkeling stop, and the beach time at Pig Island. You'll want to bring a valid driver's license (riders must be 18 or older) and be comfortable in the water. The jet ski itself is forgiving enough for beginners, but the ride does involve acceleration and turns. Waterproof cases, glasses and hats are available for purchase if you want extra protection for your phone or valuables.
