The experience
The day starts at Kuza Cave in Jambiani, where you walk through limestone caverns and swim in the clear water inside. Local artifacts and a timeline of Swahili history are on display, and the operator includes African traditional music. From there, the guide takes you to Jozani-Chwaka Bay National Park to look for red colobus monkeys, bush babies and other island wildlife in the mangrove swamps and wooded areas. The guide explains the animals' unique evolution as you move through the park.
Lunch happens at Secret Garden Restaurant in the heart of Stone Town: a quiet spot with decorated architecture and a unique ambiance. After eating, you spend three hours walking Stone Town's major landmarks: the mosques, cathedrals and shopping areas that make up the old quarter. The final stop is Salaam Cave at Kizimkazi Beach, where you swim with sea turtles in calm, warm, clear water. The whole day runs nineteen hours from pickup to return.
