Eight ziplines beneath the Pitons: what a one-hour course at Morne Coubaril feels like

You clip into a harness, walk through eight ziplines across sixteen platforms beneath Petit Piton, and land with views of Soufriere and the Caribbean each time you brake. The guide handles safety and pacing; the course takes an hour. Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty and bring water.

  • Enjoy views of Petit Piton
  • See historic Soufriere town
  • View Caribbean Sea scenery

The Experience

You start at the base of Petit Piton, one of St. Lucia's two UNESCO-listed volcanic peaks that rise straight out of the water. The local guide walks you through the safety gear—harness, helmet, gloves—and shows you how the braking system works on the platform before you clip in. It takes maybe fifteen minutes, and then you're standing on the first of sixteen platforms, looking down at the treetop canopy and the town of Soufriere spreading out below. The Caribbean Sea sits in the distance, flat and blue.

The course has eight ziplines strung between those platforms, and you move through them one at a time. Speeds hit around 30mph on the longer stretches, which means there's real momentum—you're not drifting, you're moving. The guide goes first on each line to show you the landing, then you follow. Between lines there's a bit of walking and some stairs, nothing steep, but your legs notice it by the middle of the hour. The views don't stop: Soufriere stays visible the whole time, and on clear days you can see across to the other peak, Gros Piton. The whole thing takes about sixty minutes from start to finish.

Wear long shorts or trousers and a tucked-in top—the gear and the trees mean your clothes will get dirty, possibly torn. There's a 250-pound weight limit, and you need to be at least five years old, though anyone under eighteen has to have an adult on the course with them. It's not a high-intensity workout; the guide describes it as low activity, which is accurate. What it is, though, is height and speed in a setting you don't get anywhere else on the island.

What’s included

Your hour includes hotel pickup (public transportation options are available nearby), a local guide for the entire course, a full safety training demonstration before you start, and all equipment: harness, helmet, and gloves. The eight-line, sixteen-platform course is located beneath Petit Piton with views of Soufriere and the Caribbean throughout.
