Three ways through the rainforest in one trip

You train on a short practice line, then ride the aerial tram up through the canopy while your guide points out the forest. At the ridge, you hike to the first platform and zip across eight lines strung between the tallest trees, with guides stationed at each stop. The tram brings you back down, and you're done in three hours with all gear and instruction included.

The Experience

You're standing at base camp thinking this might be more than you signed up for, but the training line changes that fast. The harness clicks, the guide walks you through the motions, and suddenly you're gliding thirty feet above the ground with nothing but trees below. That's just the warm-up. The aerial tram carries you up through the canopy—real slow, real quiet—and the higher you go, the more the island spreads out beneath you: the coast, the valleys, the whole shape of St. Lucia becoming clear in a way it never does from sea level.

Once you're at the top station, the hike starts. It's not a stroll—the forest floor is thick with buttress roots the size of walls, and the trees tower so high you have to crane your neck to see where they end. Your guide points out the vines, the bird calls, the way the light filters through in shafts. Then you reach the first platform, and that's when the real zip line begins. Eight lines in total, sixteen platforms, each one strung between the tallest trees in the Castries Waterworks Reserve. You're moving fast now, the wind loud in your ears, and the guide at each station is checking your speed, your landing, making sure you're solid before you go again. It's controlled but it doesn't feel controlled—it feels like flying.

The ride back down on the tram is the opposite of the way up. You're tired, your legs feel it, and the quiet of the descent lets you actually absorb what you just did. The whole thing takes about three hours from the moment you step out of the van. You'll need moderate fitness—this isn't a casual stroll—and your waist has to fit the harness (between 45.7 and 127 centimeters), but if you can handle stairs and a bit of elevation, you can handle this. The company is based 30 minutes from Castries port, so if you're docked there, it's an easy morning excursion before you head back to the ship.

What’s included

Your morning includes a safety briefing and training session on a short practice line, a two-way aerial tram ride through the canopy, a guided hike along the forest trails at the ridge, eight continuous zip lines across sixteen platforms high above the trees, professional guides at each station, all safety gear and harnesses, and access to refreshments and restrooms at base camp.

Is this one for you?Right for travelers with moderate fitness who want a full rainforest experience without spending all day on it—the three-hour format fits a cruise port stop or a morning from your hotel. Plan for physical exertion: you're hiking uphill on roots and landing from heights, which is what makes the canopy views and the zip line rush possible.

Top questions

How fit do I need to be?

Moderate fitness is required. You'll hike uphill on uneven forest floor and navigate platforms between zip lines. If stairs leave you winded, this will be tough.

What's the age limit?

Minimum age is 7 years old. Children must meet the waist measurement requirement (at least 45.7 cm) to fit the harness safely.

How long does the whole thing take?

About three hours from start to finish, including the training session, both tram rides, the hike, and all eight zip lines.

Is it safe if I've never done this before?

Yes. You get a full safety briefing and a training line at base camp before you start. Guides are stationed at each platform and control your speed throughout.

What if I'm pregnant or have a back injury?

This tour is not recommended for pregnant travelers or anyone with spinal, back, or neck injuries. The harness and impact of landing can aggravate these conditions.

How far is it from the cruise port?

About 30 minutes from Castries port. Public transportation options are available if you're not on a guided transfer.

What's included in the price?

Professional guide, aerial tram rides both ways, all safety gear, the training line, and access to the eight zip lines and forest hike. Refreshments and a gift shop are available at base camp.

What's the weight and size limit?

Maximum weight is 170 kg (350 lbs). Waist/hip measurement must be between 45.7 cm (18") and 127 cm (50") to fit the harness.
