The experience

The two blocks (Weheragala and Lunugamwehera) are the same forest, so one park ticket covers both. That means you move between them without backtracking or paying a second entrance fee, a setup most single-block safaris don't offer. The guide navigates the jeep through the terrain while you watch for wildlife. The parks are quieter than other Yala sections, which shifts the odds in your favor for sightings. Binoculars are provided, and the jeep itself is built for comfort on rough ground.

A half-day safari runs five hours. A full-day runs twelve and includes lunch. Both come with bottled water and cool drinks, plus hotel pickup from Yala, Kirinda, Tissamaharama, Kataragama, Weeravila and several other towns in the area. The guide is experienced and speaks English. Park entrance tickets are not included and are purchased at the gate when you arrive.

Children from age five are welcome. The terrain is uneven and the ride involves hours in a moving vehicle, so it suits travelers comfortable with that. Specialized infant seats are available if you're bringing younger children.
