The experience
The class starts in the garden. You walk through and select the vegetables and spices you'll cook with, learning what grows there and how each ingredient works in traditional Sri Lankan cooking. Then you move to the kitchen and prepare rice and curry, dhall curry and coconut rotti from scratch, picking up the techniques as you go: the easy tips that make the cooking work. A guide in English walks you through each step.
When everything is ready, you sit in the restaurant and eat what you made. The meal is the payoff: rice and curry, dhall, coconut rotti and the traditional curries you just learned to build. You taste the food while it's still hot and see how the pieces fit together on the plate.
What’s included

Top questions
What vegetables and spices will I pick from the garden?
The garden grows the fresh vegetables and spices used in traditional Sri Lankan cooking. You select what you'll use for the day's recipes (rice and curry, dhall and coconut rotti), so the ingredients are yours to choose from what's in season.
Do I need cooking experience to join this class?
No. The guide teaches all the easy tips about traditional cooking as you work, so you learn the techniques while you cook. The class is built around learning, not experience.
Will I eat the food I cook?
Yes. After you finish cooking, you sit in the restaurant and taste everything you made (the rice and curry, dhall curry and coconut rotti), while it's still hot.
How long does the whole class take?
The class runs three hours from start to finish: garden, kitchen and the meal in the restaurant.
Is transportation included?
Pickup is included in the booking, so you don't arrange your own transport to the class.
