Paella Cooking Class Barcelona: Cook & Take Recipes
Cook paella from a Barcelona chef's family recipe, then eat what you made on a plant-filled terrace overlooking the old port.
A hands-on paella and sangria cooking class in Barceloneta, Barcelona, where you learn step-by-step from a professional chef, prepare a traditional Catalan cream dessert, cook and eat the meal on a rooftop terrace, and receive all recipes by email afterward. Maximum group size is 12. The class runs 2.5 hours and includes wine, sangria, water and dinner; children must be accompanied by an adult.
The Experience
The class takes place on a rooftop terrace in Barceloneta, ten minutes' walk from the beach and facing the old port. You arrive and are welcomed with a glass of Champagne, then meet Alfonso, the chef who trained at Barcelona's cooking higher school and has worked in restaurants across the city. He walks you through the paella step by step—the ingredients, how to cook them, the timing—and shares techniques most home cooks never learn. The food is chosen for quality and freshness, and you see everything as it happens in the kitchen.
While the paella cooks, you prepare sangria and learn to make Catalan cream, the region's traditional dessert. Once everything is ready, the meal is served on the terrace surrounded by plants, and you eat what you cooked as the sun sets over the port. Wine, sangria and water are included throughout. At the end, every participant receives an email with all the recipes, so you can recreate the dishes at home.
The class runs 2.5 hours and stays small—no more than 12 people—so there is room to ask questions and move around the kitchen without crowding. The guide speaks English or Spanish. You take home the meal if there are leftovers, and the recipes stay with you long after.
