The experience

The course starts with knowledge development (online or at the dive center) covering the basic principles of scuba diving. Then you move into confined water sessions in shallow ocean water near Puerto de Mogan, where you learn the core skills under direct supervision. A PADI-certified instructor walks you through equipment setup, breathing underwater, buoyancy control and emergency procedures in a controlled setting before you venture into open water.

Once you're ready, you make four open-water dives on dive sites around the Canary Islands. These aren't guided tours where you follow along. You're actively diving, using the skills you've practiced and exploring the underwater landscape yourself while your instructor watches and guides. The whole sequence (theory, confined water, open water) fits into three days, so you leave with a certification card that's valid anywhere on earth.

Hotel pickup and drop-off are included, as is all the scuba equipment you need: wetsuit, tank, regulator, buoyancy compensator and weights. You also get a Delphinus Club membership and diving insurance. Bring a swimsuit and towel. The PADI manual and certification fee (87€) are paid separately at the dive center.

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English, Spanish, French, German, Polish and Dutch.

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Child (10 to 17 years). Children under 10 can't be included in the booking.

What do I actually do during the confined water sessions?

Confined water sessions take place in shallow ocean water where you practice essential skills like clearing water from your mask, controlling your breathing and managing buoyancy. Your instructor demonstrates each skill first, then watches while you perform it, giving feedback and corrections before you move to open water.

Can I dive if I've never been underwater before?

Yes. No prior scuba experience is required. You need to be at least 10 years old, have adequate swimming ability and be in good physical health. All participants complete a health questionnaire before diving, and some medical conditions (asthma, heart issues, spinal injuries) may prevent you from participating, so check with your doctor if you have concerns.

What happens on the open-water dives?

You make four dives on actual Canary Islands dive sites, putting your newly learned skills to use in the real underwater environment. Your instructor stays with you throughout, but you're the one operating the equipment and navigating the dive, not just observing.

How many people are in the course with me?

The maximum group size is 20 participants per course, though smaller groups are common. You work with your assigned instructor throughout the three days.
