The experience
Gran Canaria's dive sites sit in the 16–18 metre range and mix reefs with wreck dives, so you get variety in a single morning. The boat leaves directly from the dive centre, cutting out travel time and letting you focus on the water. You'll work with a professional guide throughout, and the whole operation (gearing up, paperwork, both dives and the return) fits into about five hours.
The morning starts on land: you prepare your equipment and fill out the required health questionnaire at the dive centre. Once that's done, you load the boat and head out for the first dive, then surface, regroup and move to the second site. Most divers are back at the centre by 1pm, which leaves the rest of your day open.
You'll need current PADI certification to join. If you don't have your own gear, equipment hire is available at checkout. If you do, bring it and skip the rental. The guide speaks English or Spanish, and the operation welcomes divers from age 10 upward, though all participants complete a health questionnaire before entering the water.
