Three UNESCO and drama-filmed landscapes in a single day from Seoul

A day trip from Seoul to Mt. Seorak, Nami Island and the Garden of Morning Calm with an English-speaking guide, shared transport, and all entrance fees included. You visit a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve with unique rock formations and waterfalls, walk tree-lined paths on the island where "Winter Sonata" was filmed, and explore a private oriental garden filled with seasonal flowers. The tour runs 14 hours and departs from either Hongik University Station or Myeongdong Station; during fall foliage season (late October through early November), the itinerary switches to an easy hiking route through Jujeongol Valley instead of the cable car route.

Step-by-step itinerary

Explore Mt. Seorak, Nami Island, Garden

  • Visit Seoraksan National Park
  • Hike or take cable car
  • Visit Shinheungsa Temple
  • Explore Nami Island
  • Walk through Garden of Morning Calm

The Experience

The day starts before dawn from one of two Seoul pickup points—Hongik University Station Exit 8 or Myeongdong Station Exit 4—and heads north to Seoraksan National Park. Mt. Seorak, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1982, rises with jagged rock formations and waterfalls that shift with the season. You can either hike the trails or ride the cable car up the mountain (cable car tickets cost extra and may not run in bad weather); during fall foliage season, the tour swaps the cable car for Jujeongol Valley, an easy 1- to 1.5-hour hike through the autumn colors. Shinheungsa Temple sits inside the park, and the guide walks you through both the natural landscape and its history.

After Mt. Seorak, the tour moves to Nami Island, famous for the Korean drama "Winter Sonata" and its romantic tree-lined walking paths. Metasequoia, ginkgo and cherry trees line the routes, and art installations dot the island. The ferry to and from the island is included. Depending on your ticket choice, you can add a zip-wire experience here, though it costs extra.

The final stop is the Garden of Morning Calm, a private oriental garden opened in 1996 and designed around curves, asymmetric balance and Korea's natural beauty. It stays open year-round and draws crowds for its seasonal flowers and the Winter Light Festival. The tour wraps up with a return to Seoul, arriving back at your starting station in the evening. The entire day—transport, guide, park entry, ferry and garden admission—is arranged; you bring comfortable walking shoes and water, and meals are on your own.

What’s included

  • Entrance tickets for Mt. Seorak, Nami Island ferry and the Garden of Morning Calm.
  • shared air-conditioned minivan or bus transport throughout the day.
  • English-speaking guide and driver.

Operated by Korea Time Tour

Is this one for you?Choose your departure station (Hongik University or Myeongdong) when you book, and the guide handles all three destinations, entry lines and transport timing—the only decisions left are whether to hike or take the cable car at Mt. Seorak and whether to add the zip-wire at Nami Island. If you're visiting in late October or early November, expect the fall foliage route with easy hiking instead of the cable car.

Top questions

What's the difference between the cable car and hiking routes at Mt. Seorak?

Mt. Seorak offers two ways to explore: the cable car (which costs extra and may close in bad weather) or hiking the trails. During fall foliage season (late October through early November), the tour automatically switches to Jujeongol Valley for a guided 1- to 1.5-hour easy hike instead, so you walk through the autumn colors rather than ride up the mountain.

Do I need to bring anything special for this tour?

Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water. If you're visiting during fall foliage season and will be hiking Jujeongol Valley, proper footwear is especially important. Luggage is allowed but discuss the size and number of bags with the operator in advance so the minivan or bus can accommodate them.

What's included in the price and what costs extra?

The tour includes entrance fees for Mt. Seorak, Nami Island ferry and the Garden of Morning Calm, plus shared transport and an English-speaking guide. Cable car tickets at Mt. Seorak, meals, drinks and gratuities are not included. Zip-wire tickets at Nami Island are optional and available on some ticket options.

Where do I meet the guide and can I choose my pickup location?

You pick one of two starting points when you book: Hongik University Station Exit 8 or Myeongdong Station Exit 4. The guide meets you at your chosen station before dawn. Note that there is no drop-off at Hongik University Station at the end of the day due to traffic, but you can take subway line 2 from Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station, one of the return stops.

What happens if the weather is bad?

The tour runs in rain, snow or wind. However, the cable car at Mt. Seorak may not operate depending on weather conditions. Arrival times at each destination can shift due to weather and traffic. Cancellations are not refunded within 24 hours of departure for weather-related reasons.

Is this tour suitable for families with young children?

The tour is suitable for all fitness levels. Infants (ages 0–2) can sit on an adult's lap for free and do not need their own seat. The tour is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries. Discuss any concerns about the 14-hour day and the easy hiking during fall foliage season with the operator before booking.
