The Experience

You're strapping on skis for the first time in years, or maybe ever, and an instructor is showing you how to shift your weight on a slope that doesn't feel as steep as you feared. That's the opening move of this Seoul day trip — a 1-hour basic ski lesson at Elysian Gangchon Ski Resort, one of the closest resorts to the city. Eight of the resort's ten slopes are beginner or intermediate terrain, which means you're not dropped on something that will scare you. The lesson is included if you pick the Ski+MovingWalk or Ski+Lift option; after that hour, you can keep going on the moving walk (a gentler alternative to the lift) or step up to the lift if you're ready. Snowboarders skip the lesson but get the same equipment rental and slope access. There's also a sled option if skiing isn't your thing, or you can just have free time at the resort.

After the resort, the tour moves to Nami Island, which became famous through Korean dramas and has stayed packed with visitors ever since. In winter, the island's tree-lined paths and frozen river make for the kind of photography spot that explains why people keep coming back. You'll walk around, take photos, and the ferry tickets are already included — no separate transaction at the dock. The island sits on calm water that turns almost mirror-like in cold weather, and the bare trees create a different mood than summer crowds would suggest. Then comes Eobi Ice Valley, a valley covered in ice during winter and the closest one to Seoul. It's another photography moment, this time with the landscape itself as the subject. If the valley isn't frozen enough on the day you go, the tour substitutes Hongjecheon Waterfall, so there's always a third stop.

Round-trip transfers are included from your starting point (Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station area) and back to either that location or Myeongdong Station, depending on the route. An English-speaking guide is with you the whole day. You'll need to bring your own waterproof gloves — they sell them at the resort for 15,000–30,000 KRW if you forget — and ski suits aren't included in any option, so rent or bring your own. Arrive 5–10 minutes early at your meeting point; the tour runs in snow, rain or wind, but cancellations within 24 hours of departure aren't refunded. The exact timing depends on weather and traffic, so build in flexibility.
