Mt. Seorak & Nami Island Day Trip: UNESCO Park Rail Bike
Two UNESCO-protected landscapes in one day: mountain rock formations and a film-location island
A 14-hour guided tour from Seoul to Mt. Seorak National Park and Nami Island with an English-speaking guide, shared minivan transport, park entry and ferry tickets included. You choose between two pickup points (Hongik University Station or Myeongdong Station), and can add a rail bike ride along the Bukhan River as an optional extra. The cable car at Mt. Seorak may not run in poor weather, but hiking trails remain open year-round; during fall foliage season (late October to early November), the tour visits Jujeongol Valley instead of the cable car route.
Step-by-step itinerary
Explore Mt. Seorak and Nami Island
- Visit Seoraksan National Park
- Hike or take cable car
- Ride rail bike (optional)
- Visit Nami Island
The Experience
The day starts at your chosen Seoul station and heads north to Seoraksan National Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1982. At Mt. Seorak itself, you decide whether to hike the trails or ride the cable car up through the rock formations and past waterfalls—the cable car fee is separate if you want it. Shinheungsa Temple sits inside the park, and the guide navigates the site while you move at your own pace through the landscape. If weather turns bad, the cable car closes, but the hiking routes stay open and the tour continues.
Between the mountain and Nami Island, you can add a rail bike ride if you booked that option: a round-trip pedal along a railway bridge that crosses the Bukhan River, starting and ending at Gapyeong Station. It is a separate experience from the main tour but timed to fit the day. If you skip it, the tour moves straight to the ferry.
Nami Island is the final stop, famous for the Korean drama Winter Sonata and its walking paths lined with metasequoia, ginkgo and cherry trees. Art installations dot the island, and the ferry ride to get there is included. The return to Seoul depends on traffic and weather, but the guide coordinates the timing so you get back at a reasonable hour. Meals and drinks are not included, so plan to eat at the park or on the island.

What's the difference between the cable car and hiking at Mt. Seorak?
Mt. Seorak offers both options on the same tour. The cable car takes you up through the rock formations and waterfalls without walking, but the fee is not included and it closes in bad weather. Hiking trails stay open year-round and cost nothing extra, though during fall foliage season (late October to early November) the tour visits Jujeongol Valley instead of the cable car area.
Can I add the rail bike to my booking?
Yes, the rail bike is an optional add-on you select at checkout. It is a round-trip pedal along the Bukhan River between Mt. Seorak and Nami Island, starting from Gapyeong Station. If you do not choose it, the tour goes straight from the mountain to the island by minivan.
What time does the tour leave Seoul and when do I get back?
The tour runs 14 to 16 hours total, depending on weather and traffic. You pick your departure point—either Hongik University Station Exit 8 or Myeongdong Station Exit 4—and the guide meets you there. Return time varies, but the tour is designed to fit both major sites into a single day.
Is the ferry to Nami Island included?
Yes, the ferry ticket to Nami Island is included in the tour price. Transport by air-conditioned minivan between all three sites (Seoul, Mt. Seorak and Nami Island) is also included, along with park entry to Mt. Seorak.
What happens if the weather is bad?
The tour operates in rain, snow or wind. The cable car at Mt. Seorak may not run in poor conditions, but hiking trails remain open and the rest of the itinerary continues. Arrival times to each destination can shift due to weather and traffic.
Do I need to speak Korean or have a guide who speaks my language?
An English-speaking tour guide and driver leads the entire day, so you do not need Korean. The guide handles all logistics and explains the sites as you move through them.
