The Experience
The tour starts with pickup from your hotel in Porto or from Ermida or Peso da Régua train station if you arrive by rail from São Bento Station. From there you head to Barqueiros to the guide's own family quinta, a small traditional winery that has been producing wine for 150 years on just 2 hectares. You taste four wines here: one red, one white, and two port wines, all made using traditional methods.
After the first quinta, the route moves into the Vinho Verde region for a second tasting at a family quinta there, where you sample four different Vinho Verde wines. The tour then takes you to Peso da Régua itself, where you see the Douro River and the vineyards that line it: the landscape that frames the entire day. The guide drives you back to your accommodation or to either train station by the end of the afternoon, depending on where you started.
The guide speaks English or Portuguese and travels with you in an air-conditioned vehicle. Bottled water and WiFi are included. You must be at least 18 to participate in the wine tastings.

Is this one for you? This is a private tour, so your group travels alone with the guide: ideal if you want an intimate experience and the flexibility to ask questions about the winemaking process without sharing the guide's attention. The guide is a local wine producer themselves, which means you get insight into how these wines are actually made rather than a standard tour script.
