Our crew member João handed us a small glass of tawny as the boat pulled away from the dock, and he didn't wait for us to settle before pointing upriver. "That one," he said, nodding at the iron lattice overhead, "Gustave Eiffel designed it for trains. Now look behind you." The Dom Luís I Bridge rose up in two tiers, the lower deck so close you could almost touch the painted metal. The boat positions itself in the best spots for photos, and because you're on the water, the light and the reflections change constantly.
