Step-by-step itinerary
Visit Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu
- Enter Machu Picchu lower part
- Explore Royalty Circuit 3
- See Temple of the Sun and more
- Take photo in agricultural sector
- Hike Huayna Picchu mountain
The experience
Three hours is the full window for this combination: about an hour through the lower royal buildings of Machu Picchu itself, then up to three more if you climb Huayna Picchu. The circuit runs through the granite structures built for Inca royalty in the lower part of the site, including the Temple of the Sun, the House of the Inca, Las Tres Portadas, the Sacred Rock, and the Temple of the Condor. You'll pass through the agricultural sector where the classic photograph angle sits, the view most visitors come for, though the Guardian's House viewpoint itself is not part of this circuit.
Huayna Picchu is the steep peak rising above the main ruins. The hike to the summit takes a maximum of three hours and is only open to visitors 18 or older. You can skip it and stay in the lower sector, or add it to your ticket and tackle both in one morning. Either way, you move through the site at your own pace. No guide is included, though one can be added separately at checkout.
Pick the 7 AM slot to beat the crowds, or the 9 AM slot if an earlier start doesn't fit your schedule. Both tickets are non-refundable once purchased. You'll need moderate fitness for the mountain. The climb involves steep stone steps and exposed sections. Bring water and sun protection. There's little shade on either the circuit or the peak.
What’s included
- Entrance to Machu Picchu's Royalty Circuit 3 (lower royal sector with the Temple of the Sun, House of the Inca, Las Tres Portadas, Sacred Rock, and Temple of the Condor).
- entrance to Huayna Picchu mountain hike.

Is this one for you?The 7 AM start gets you through the lower sector and onto the mountain before midday crowds arrive. The 9 AM option suits a slower morning or a schedule already packed with early activities elsewhere in the Sacred Valley. Either way, you're moving on your own, so the pace depends entirely on how long you linger at each structure and how fast you climb.

Top questions
What languages is the guide in?
Live guide in English and Spanish.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. No refund if you cancel.
What's the difference between Circuit 3 and the other routes through Machu Picchu?
Circuit 3, also called the Royalty Circuit or Lower Part, runs through the granite buildings in the lower archaeological sector of Machu Picchu where Inca royalty lived and worked. It includes the Temple of the Sun, the House of the Inca, Las Tres Portadas, the Sacred Rock, and the Temple of the Condor, and passes through the agricultural sector where you can take the classic photograph. Other circuits cover different areas of the site, but this one focuses on the royal structures and that iconic viewpoint.
Can I do both the circuit and Huayna Picchu in one morning?
Yes. The circuit takes roughly an hour, and Huayna Picchu takes a maximum of three hours, so both fit within the morning window. You'll move through the lower sector first, then tackle the mountain hike if you choose to. The ticket covers entry to both, so you don't need separate bookings.
Is a guide included with these tickets?
No. These tickets give you entry to the site and the mountain, but you explore on your own pace without a guide. You can add a guide as an optional add-on at checkout if you want one.
What's the age requirement for Huayna Picchu?
Huayna Picchu is open only to visitors 18 years old and above. If you're under 18, you can still use your ticket to explore Circuit 3 and the rest of Machu Picchu, but the mountain hike is off-limits.
Do I need to book train and bus tickets separately?
Yes. These tickets cover entry to Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu only. You'll need to arrange your own transport to the site: train and bus tickets are sold separately and are not included.
