The Experience

First thing that happened: our guide, Diego, greeted us right at the Aguas Calientes train station with this wide grin—like he’d been waiting for us all morning. He handed me a coca candy (I was already feeling the altitude) and joked about how everyone tries to pronounce “Huayna Picchu” differently. The air smelled like wet stone and eucalyptus, and there was this low hum from the little shops lining the street. I didn’t expect to feel so instantly welcomed, honestly.
