The experience

The day starts with pickup from your hotel, then transport to the train station where your guide meets you. Once at Machu Picchu, you walk uphill for about 15 minutes to reach the highest viewpoint: the one in the National Geographic postcards. Your guide photographs you and your group there, then leads you through the citadel corner to corner: the farming terraces, the main temples and altars, the emperor's house, the Intiwatana sundial, the royal mausoleum, the temple of the three windows, the festival plazas, the sacred rock and the temple of the condor. The guided portion runs roughly three hours.
