The experience

The tour starts at your hotel or airport in Iquitos and moves straight into the rhythm of the river. Day one takes you through Bethlehem Market (where vendors sell grilled lizard, medicinal roots and tropical fruits), then by canoe to the floating neighborhood and the point where the Nanay, Itaya and Amazon rivers converge, a spot known for pink dolphin sightings. You'll stop at the Chullachaki Ecomuseum to learn about medicinal plants and taste traditional drinks, see giant paiche fish and alligators at Fundo Don Pedrito, and reach Yanayacu Lodge by evening for a sunset canoe ride.

Day two starts at 5 a.m. with a canoe ride to catch the sunrise and watch birds wake. An ethnobotanical hike through the flooded forest follows, where you walk among ceibas, kapok and machira coriaceas trees and look for monkeys and sloths in their habitat. After lunch at the lodge, you move into the jungle to camp under the stars, with an outdoor barbecue dinner and a night hike searching for tarantulas and other insects. Day three breaks camp, then pivots to piranha fishing from a canoe (a hands-on experience with the Amazon's most famous fish) before returning to the lodge for lunch. The afternoon takes you to the peasant community of Yanayacu Timicuro to learn their traditions and way of life, ending with a quiet canoe ride at dusk.

Day four visits Monkey Island, a rescue center where you interact with primates, then travels to a Yagua clan to see traditional crafts and dances. A final swim in the Amazon marks your farewell to the jungle before lunch and the drive back to Iquitos, arriving around 10 a.m. for transfer to your hotel or airport. Three nights are spent at Yanayacu Lodge. Rubber boots are provided for all river and forest work.

Is this one for you? This small-group tour (up to six people) moves at a deliberate pace, splitting time between the lodge and one night in the jungle, so you get both comfort and immersion without committing to a full camping expedition. The four-day length fits the river rhythm (enough time to move between sites, wait for wildlife, and spend real hours in communities) without the commitment of a week-long expedition.

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Youth (7 to 17 years); Child (4 to 6 years); Infant (under 4).

What happens on the night I sleep in the jungle camp?

On night two, after the ethnobotanical hike and lunch, you move into the jungle to camp under the stars. Dinner is an outdoor barbecue accompanied by local stories, and after dark you join a night hike to search for insects like tarantulas before sleeping in the camp.

Will I actually see pink dolphins on this tour?

Pink dolphins are known to surface at the confluence of the Nanay, Itaya and Amazon rivers, which you visit on day one by canoe. Sightings depend on timing and river conditions, but this spot is where they are most likely to appear during the tour.

What is the Yagua community visit like?

On day four, you travel to a Yagua clan where you learn about their traditional crafts and dances, experiencing their customs and way of life directly. The visit is part of the final morning before you return to Iquitos.

How much time do I spend in a canoe?

Canoeing is woven throughout the tour: sunrise paddles on days two and three, river travel between sites, and evening rides. The exact time varies by day, but expect multiple canoe sessions as the primary way to move through the jungle and spot wildlife.

What should I pack for the jungle camp night?

Rubber boots are provided by the tour. You'll want insect repellent, a light layer for the night air, and a headlamp or flashlight for the night hike. The lodge provides accommodation for the other three nights, so pack accordingly for both lodge and open-air sleeping.
