The Experience

The route starts with a coastal drive from Muscat toward the interior, stopping first at the Bimmah Sinkhole for photos and a swim in its blue-green water if you want. From there, the road leads to the white sand beaches near Fins, then inland to Wadi Shab, where a 35-minute hike takes you through a canyon filled with palms and greenery to a pool at the end. After that comes a photo stop at Wadi Tiwi before the drive into Wahiba Sands itself — off-road through stretches of towering dunes where the landscape shifts to pure sand in every direction. You overnight at Al Salam Camp in the desert.

The second day starts early on top of the dunes to catch the sunrise, then returns to the camp for breakfast. A visit to a nearby Bedouin house follows, where you can drink coffee and eat Omani dates with the family and ride a camel (paid separately). The final leg is a drive to Wadi Bani Khalid, one of Oman's largest wadis, where the canyon walls frame a pool deep enough for swimming and the afternoon is yours to relax before the return drive to Muscat in the late afternoon.
