The experience

Two days lets you move slowly through terrain most one-day tours skip. The first day starts at Bimmah Sink Hole, a natural formation worth a camera stop on the way to Fins Beach, where cliffs meet the water at sunset. From there the route heads inland to Wadi Shab, where a 35-minute hike takes you up a canyon lined with palms to a series of clear pools. You swim from pool to pool through warm water, then through an opening in the rocks into a cave where a small waterfall drops from above and sunlight turns the water turquoise. The canyon itself shows what centuries of water from the mountains can carve into stone.

After Wadi Shab, the tour drives off-road into Wahiba Sands Desert, where endless dunes replace the wadis. You stay overnight at Desert Rose Camp, a 4-star facility in the dunes. The second morning starts with sunrise watched from near the camp, then a visit to a Bedouin house where coffee and Omani dates are served if available. The final stop is Wadi Bani Khalid, one of Oman's largest wadis, where you can swim in emerald pools, sunbathe or picnic in the canyon before the drive back to Muscat.

A private 4WD vehicle and English-speaking guide stay with your group throughout. Pickup and drop-off happen at your Muscat hotel, port or airport. The tour includes dinner, breakfast, bottled water during the day, and entry to Wadi Shab. You arrange lunch separately on day one.
