The experience

The route covers five major stops across two days, starting with Bimmah Sinkhole and Fins Beach on the drive south, then a 35-minute hike into Wadi Shab where you swim through a series of clear pools and into a small cave with a waterfall. Wadi Tiwi is a photo stop that shows the greener side of Oman's wadis, lined with lush plantations. By late afternoon you reach Wahiba Sands Desert itself, where the road turns to sand and you drive between towering dunes to the overnight camp.

Day two starts before dawn. You watch the sunrise from near the camp, then visit a Bedouin house for coffee and Omani dates with the family if available. The final stop is Wadi Bani Khalid, one of Oman's largest and most scenic wadis, where you can swim in emerald pools, sunbathe or picnic in the canyon. A short walk from the parking area reaches the main pools. The tour ends back in Muscat by late afternoon.

The 4WD vehicle is comfortable for the sand driving and rough terrain. Your English-speaking guide handles navigation and commentary throughout. Camping means a tent in the desert with dinner and breakfast included. Lunch is on your own. Pickup and drop-off cover the Muscat area, including hotels, the port and the airport.
