The experience

The tour leaves Muscat at 11 AM and heads straight to Wadi Bani Khalid, one of Oman's largest and most dramatic wadis. The canyon walls rise steeply above pools of clear freshwater that stay cool year-round. You can swim, sunbathe on the rocks, or walk deeper into the wadi to find hidden caves and side passages. The water and the scale of the place are the draw here: most travelers spend a couple of hours in and around the pools before heading back to the 4x4.

After the wadi, the tour moves into Wahiba Sands, a vast desert of golden dunes. You stop at a traditional Bedouin house where the guide serves Omani coffee. A camel ride across the dunes is available for an extra fee (around 7 to 10 minutes per person). The real payoff comes at sunset: you drive to the top of the dunes and watch the light shift from white to orange to deep pink across the sand. The return to Muscat happens after dark, arriving back in the early evening.

Lunch is not part of the package, so bring snacks or plan to eat light. The terrain and the pace require at least moderate fitness.
