The experience
The tour starts with pickup from your Malaga hotel, then a ferry crossing to Tangier with a guide who speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French or Portuguese. Once across, you travel in an air-conditioned minivan to Cape Spartel, the northernmost point of Africa and the western entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean. On the return toward the city, you have the option to ride a camel along the beach or photograph them before moving on to the Caves of Hercules, a natural and historical site carved into the rock.
The Kasbah (fortress) is the centerpiece of the afternoon. A walking tour traces the footsteps of Henri Matisse, the French painter whose artistic vision was shaped by the old city's colors and people: work you can see reflected in his famous paintings. The Kasbah's main square hosts daily cultural performances: the Cercle de musique arabo-andalouse, Gnaoua groups playing African rhythms, and snake charmers. From there, you enter the Medina, the medieval city with its maze of narrow alleys, hidden architectural treasures and souks where you can buy handmade items and talk directly with locals. The tour also covers Petit and Grand Socco Squares, Mendoubia Park, and the American Legation, a U.S. National Historic Landmark. If religious heritage interests you, the itinerary includes the ancient Jewish quarter Mellah, two synagogues (Moise Nahon and Chaare Raphael), and Christian churches (Saint Andrew and San Francisco), all reflecting Morocco's long tradition of religious tolerance.
Lunch and shopping time are woven into the day. Ferry tickets, all transport, the camel ride, guide services and entry to the Kasbah are included. Coffee and tea are provided on board. The Kasbah Museum is optional and paid separately at checkout if you want it.
