The Experience
The tour starts with a panoramic drive through downtown Tangier, then heads to Cap Spartel, where the coast opens into a wide sandy bay. Here you have the option to ride a camel along the beach—a moment most travelers add on. From there, the route moves inland to the Caves of Hercules, a natural formation carved into the hillside and one of the area's most visited attractions. The whole loop runs about three hours.
You travel in an air-conditioned minivan with WiFi on board and bottled water. The driver speaks English and can walk you through the history and architecture of the neighborhoods you pass. Pickup happens from your hotel or the cruise port, and drop-off is either back where you started or in the old medina if you'd rather explore on foot from there. Infants and small children can travel in a specialized seat or stroller if you need one.
