The experience

You're picked up from your hotel or cruise ship port and driven through Tangier's narrow Medina streets to the Petit Socco, once the greatest souk in Morocco. The guide walks you through the colorful markets and spice bazaars, pointing out the artisan weaving factories and hidden alleyways that give the city its character. There's time to browse and shop without pressure, and the guide explains what you're seeing as you move through the old quarters.

The tour takes you to the Kasbah, a hilltop palace complex built by Sultan Moulay Ismail in the 17th century, where you enter the grounds and see the gardens and fortress walls overlooking the city. From there you head north to Cape Spartel, where the Mediterranean and Atlantic meet. The drive back passes through Perdicaris Park and the Armelat Forest, named after a 1904 kidnapping that became an international incident.
