Puerto Vallarta ATV Riding Private Mountain Adventure
You choose how long to spend at each place, and the guide adjusts the route to match.
Private ATV riding in Puerto Vallarta takes you offroading through Sierra Madre trails, past downtown views, into Rio Cuale for a swim, and to the lighthouse overlooking the bay—a 3-hour adventure where you operate the ATV after a tutorial and test ride, with a guide who uses hand signals to lead. The operator provides helmets, goggles, bandanas and fuel; you bring a swimsuit and bug spray if you want them, and the minimum age is 16 with a valid driver permit (passengers as young as 6 can ride along).
Step-by-step itinerary
ATV tour through Puerto Vallarta
- Meet at shop 15 minutes early
- Fill waivers and receive safety gear
- Learn hand signals and ATV operation
- Ride side streets with downtown views
- Offroad Sierra Madre trails
- Relax at hidden bar in Sierra
- Swim in Rio Cuale to cool down
- Ride back to town and visit lighthouse
- Admire downtown and bay views
The Experience
You meet at the shop 15 minutes before departure to sign waivers and get a full briefing on where you're going, what the stops are, and how much time you can spend at each one. The guide walks you through ATV operation, shows you the hand signals you'll use once riding starts, and takes you on a test drive so you're comfortable before the real adventure begins. Helmets, goggles, bandanas and face masks are provided; fuel is included in the price.
The ride starts on Puerto Vallarta's side streets with views of downtown, then moves into offroading on Sierra Madre trails. You'll stop at a hidden bar in the mountains, jump into Rio Cuale to cool off, and ride back through town toward the lighthouse, where you can stand and look out over the downtown and the bay. The whole loop takes about three hours, but the timing is flexible—you decide how long to linger at each place or how much trail time you want instead.
This is built for people without riding experience; the tutorial and test drive mean you don't need to have ridden before. A minimum of two ATVs per booking keeps groups small and manageable. Bring a swimsuit if the river appeals to you, bug spray for the trails, and wear comfortable walking shoes. The activity runs in all weather, so dress for conditions. If you're a cruise passenger, you'll need to provide your ship name, docking time, disembarkation time and re-boarding time at checkout so the guide can time your return.

Can I ride an ATV if I've never done it before?
Yes—the tour is designed for riders without experience. You get a full operation tutorial and a test drive before the adventure starts, so the guide can confirm you're comfortable with the controls and hand signals.
What happens at Rio Cuale during the ride?
Rio Cuale is a stop where you jump in to cool off during the tour. Bring a swimsuit if you want to swim; it's optional but a popular part of the afternoon.
How long is the whole experience, and can I spend more time at one stop?
The tour runs about three hours total, but the duration is flexible. You choose how long to stay at each place—the hidden bar, the river, the lighthouse—or how much time you want to spend riding trails instead.
What's included in the price, and what do I need to bring?
The price includes the ATV, helmet, goggles, bandanas, face masks, fuel and a private guide. Bring a swimsuit if you plan to swim, bug spray for the trails, and wear comfortable walking shoes. Sunscreen is a good idea too.
Is there a minimum age to ride, and can younger family members come along?
The minimum age to operate an ATV is 16 with a valid driver permit. Passengers as young as 6 years old can ride as a second rider on an ATV with an adult.
What if I'm arriving by cruise ship—how do I make sure I'm back in time?
At checkout, provide your ship name, docking time, disembarkation time and re-boarding time. The guide will plan the route and timing so you're back before the ship leaves.
